February Newsletter No. 10

Website Development
All of the children in school have been very involved in developing our school website. It is now ready to be ‘road tested’!! We would like to invite you and your child to come and see what you think and help us with further developments. There are some exciting examples of children’s animation work and activities to see. We have arranged two drop-in sessions for Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th from 9.30-1O.30am. Please sign in at the school office. We will be using laptops in a classroom and any suggestions will be gratefully received. Hope to see you there!

World Book Day
World Book Day is on the 6th March 2008. We are always keen to promote reading for enjoyment at school and as part of this event each child will receive a free book token worth £1.00. It can be used in many book shops and other outlets. We will all be reading special books in school on this day. For more information please see www.worldbookday.com

Class Newsletters
Following suggestions from staff and parents we have decided in school that each class will produce class newsletters. There will be at least one per class per half term and more in other classes. We hope you will find the information in them helpful and we are always interested to hear your comments and feedback from these letters.

Arts Week 17th – 20th March
Preparations for Arts Week are gathering momentum. Our ‘Arts Team’ in school have arranged a great variety of activities for the children during this week including music workshops. visiting dance tutors and art workshops all culminating in a whole school singing event (showcasing our new staff singing group!!). We are still interested to hear from anyone that has any skills they would be happy to share with small groups of children. Please let Mrs Zarins know. Thank you.

ARTS WEEK COMPETITION
We have come up with a novel competition for this week. We would like to invite you and your child to produce a work of art out of a plastic bag! Be creative and enjoy this unique recycling opportunity. Please bring entries into your class any morning during Arts Week. Competition winners wil! be announced on the Thursday.

Trips Out
Our Year 1 children are excited about their forthcoming trip to the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. We hope they will enjoy this wonderful collection of art using fabric and textiles.
Our school choir will be taking part in the Norwich Music Festival on Tuesday 4th March. We wish them good luck with this event.
Some of our year 2 children are taking part in music workshops at the John Innes Centre this week while others are looking forward to the premiere of their film at Cinema City on 7th March.

Family Learning
Our ‘Bird Watch’ was a great success, if a bit chilly!! A variety of birds were seen and heard and many classes enjoyed using binoculars to spot birds.
Other events to look out for:
4th March 2.00 – 3.00pm, Calligraphy – Come and try your hand at beautiful writing.
17th March 2.00 – 3.00pm, Country Dancing – Dust off your dancing Shoes!
19th March 2.15 – 3.00pm, Community Singing – Join with others and raise the roof with some fun songs.

Playground Pals
Following suggestions from our School Council and year 2 discussions the children decided that it would be nice to elect some year 2 children to be ‘Playground Pals’. These children will wear yellow bibs on the playground and will help look after younger children at playtimes. They will help to set up little games for others to take part in and generally be seen as a friendly face in the playground. We hope that many of our Year 2 children will be able to participate in this project throughout the year.
