National School Sports Week
29th June – 3rd July 2009
In line with this National Event we have got loads going on to celebrate everyone’s achievements in sport this year.
We will be kicking off the week with an ‘Opening Ceremony’ on Monday morning. A chance to let all the children know what will be going on in the week and how we are going to celebrate together.
All classes will join together every morning at 9am on the field for a ten minute ‘Whole School Warm Up’ to start each day. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and join in on Friday 3rd July.
Each classroom will have on display an activity timetable; ‘The Power of Five’ for parents, carers, staff and children to record the activities they have taken part in. A great way of highlighting how active we all are.
Everyone will take part in our ‘Ancient Olympics Sports day’ on Wednesday 1st July. There will be two sessions, 10.30 – 12 and 1.30 – 3pm with a whole school picnic lunch on the field in between. Six classes will take part in the morning and the other five classes will take part in the afternoon. Children will be in mixed aged teams and will do 6 activities in rotation. There will then be an opportunity for short races at the end of the session.
AM – Chaffinches, Robins, Jays, Blackbirds, Swifts and Wrens
PM – Crows, Swallows, Doves, Owls and Magpies
Everyone is welcome to come and spectate, and share a picnic lunch with us. There will also be ‘Fruit Bar’ available at lunchtime, supported by the PTA. If you are able to come along and help cut up fruit during the morning then please let the school office know.
Tuesday 30th June, 3.30pm will see our second ‘Year 2 and 3 Family Teeball’ event take place. A great chance for the year 2’s to get to know some of the year 3 children and families from Avenue Junior School.
A team of 12 Year 2 children will represent the school in an ‘Annual Teeball Tournament’ at CNS High School on Thursday 2nd July. We will compete against other local schools for the morning and even get mini-bus transport just like older athletes!
