Parent and Carer Questionnaire
(updated 19/5/09)
A summary of your replys to our recent questionnaire and our responses to some of the questions it raised.
Our Own Questionnaire:
Thank you for all your replies. There was an overwhelmingly positive feeling about our school which we were very pleased about. We were certainly very pleased that your children enjoy coming to school everyday!
You can see the responses to our survey by downloading the Parent Survey Results.
Please find below how we plan to address some of your concerns:
Learning in the Classroom:
Class size is an area that we have little control over as our Pupil Admissions Numbers are set by the Local Authority and pupils generate income for the school to be able to operate. All our classes have very experienced teaching assistants who work alongside class teachers and offer extra support for children.
Learning outside the Classroom:
Family Learning hopefully will continue as much as possible. Unfortunately most of the sessions will be during working hours, however, we do have several activities running at the Sports hall and on Saturdays at CNS that our families can attend. This information is on our website or links from it.
Home Ideas/Learning Suggestions:
These currently appear on your class newsletters and also on our website and for Barn Owls on VLE. If there is anything specific that you would like to find out more about please let us know and we can arrange a session or information for you.
Our Enquiry Curriculum:
Our Enquiry Curriculum is an exciting and motivating way to encourage life-long learning. A booklet explaining what it is and what it is not is currently available on our website or a hard copy can be found in the entrance.
If you have any particular questions please do talk to your classteachers.
Buildings:
Our school does feel crowded at times and hence we want to extend learning outdoors. We are also planning an extension to the front of the school to provide a larger welcome and reception area for visitors and parents. This work will also provide us with two more small group areas. In terms of long term plans for the site we do hope to look at extending the hall.
Our heating system is being monitored and hopefully will be more efficient next year.
We are looking into providing more space for after-school club.
Security Issues:
As you may be aware our Governing Body agreed to install a mature hedge across the front of the school to provide greater security. This, on strong advice from our Grounds Advisors, will be planted in the Autumn so that weather conditions are right. The side gate we have installed has been a great benefit and I’m pleased to say that parents are now coming to sign in at the main office. Hopefully our new extension work to the main entrance, planned for this Summer, will provide even more security. If you have any further concerns please do speak to a Governor or any member of staff.
Outside Spaces:
Our pond is being overhauled and we are awaiting a concrete liner to be installed.
More shelter is something we are considering but requires some large expenditure!
We are currently developing our Forest Schools plan and the children will be able to gain some wonderful experiences from this developing area.
Travel Plans:
We will endeavour to keep reminding parents/carers about parking issues and hope they react .We meet regularly with our Travel Plan Officer to keep up to date with new ideas and schemes around traffic and travel.
Lunchtimes:
Our Leadership Team have monitored lunchtimes closely and feel that the time for eating lunch is adequate. As always we will be looking creatively at how to make lunchtimes as pleasant as possible for all concerned and welcome your suggestions.
Please feel free to email or talk to any member of staff about any issues you may have as well as sharing your good ideas.
We will be holding our first BIG IDEAS CLUB on 21st May at Playtime at which any pupil may come and suggest ideas for our school development.
