School Council Minutes – 21.5.09

Wow! Lots of business to deal with this week.  We only had time to look at notes from 2 class councils.  We will start by hearing from other class councils at the next meeting.

Good things around the school to celebrate:

  • Having a place to do swapping on Fridays – we are pleased that people are happy with this.  Please remind anyone who does not know about the swapping places.
  • New playground markings for Year R – great!  Other playground markings for the big playground will be coming soon.
  • Noise in the dinner hall seems to have dropped a bit.
  • New plants – thank you to Mrs Whiting and other gardeners.
  • Forest Schools.
  • The fish tank – the fish will be coming soon!  We have to wait until the water is just right for them.
  • Most people have stopped climbing trees.
  • Braille around the school – Benjamin mentioned this.  Do you know what braille is?  Look out for it: can you find any?

Our best learning in the classroom:

  • Nothing to share this time.  What’s been your best learning recently?

Things that need to improve:

  • Still too noisy in the dinner hall – We discussed this and thought that everyone had a responsibility to keep the noise down.  Children and adults need to keep their voices lower.  Children mentioned that some MSAs used the piano to help lower the noise and that perhaps more classes could have lunches outside.  Do you think this would help?  Do we need meetings between School Council and MSAs to help make lunchtimes better for everyone?  Tell us what you think.
  • More bark chippings under the monkey bars? – Mr Bunting will speak to Ms Dixon about this on Scbool Council’s behalf.
  • Can we remember not to roll down the hill by the adventure playground at playtimes?  - Some children on the council were not sure if this was allowed or not.  Some adults seem to think its okay, and some don’t.  Mr Bunting will speak to teaching adults to see what they think.

Bright ideas for making things better:

  • More people eating outside at lunchtimes.
  • Good idea to have the swapping area by the adventure playground.

Next meeting on Friday, June 5th.
