School Council Minutes 30.1.09
Good things to celebrate
- Owls (Miss Brock’s class) have been pond-dipping and there are loads of waterlice in the pond. Perhaps some of the other class would like to give it a visit?
Action: check out plans for developing the pond. School Council would like to be involved if possible. - Playground buddies are working really well. Thanks to the new team, and to Mrs Carter for her help.
Action: make sure that Mrs Carter is thanked on behalf of School Council. - Reception have got an indoor lunchtime club which is helping some children.
Action: investigate whether an indoor lunchtime club is something which could operate across the school. The School Council think that it would be a good idea. What do the classes think? - Mr Yallop and Mr Hajdul are really good at looking after children on the playground.
Action: make sure that Mr Yallop and Mr Hajdul are thanked on behalf of School Council.
Things that need to improve
- Fighting / running / bumping / upsets on the playground. We talked about possible solutions to this, and we thought it was important that the children found ways of telling each other how they felt. It was suggested that we should try saying, “Stop! I don’t like it!” as some of the School Council who had been in Ms Marshall’s class had found this to be a successful method.
Action: why don’t we try the “Stop! I don’t like it!” method? It would be good to know how people got on using this approach. - Swapping cards. The School Council would like to remind everyone that swapping cards should only be around on a Friday. This was agreed last year as the only day when swapping cards should be in school.
Action: Only bring swapping cards in on Fridays, please!
Bright ideas for making things better
- Think about how your behaviour might make people feel. This could help to make the playground a happier place.
- Remember to keep hands and feet to ourselves; even when we think we are playing, this is often the way that playground problems start.
- Arrange a meeting point on the playground with your friends. That way, it doesn’t matter if you take a bit longer eating your lunch.
Please share these minutes at your next Class Council meeting.
Our next School Council meeting will be at 10:25 on Friday 13th February.
