School Council Minutes – 5/6/09
Good things around the school to celebrate:
- Lots of happy people so they don’t need the friendship bench so much. The council wanted to make sure everyone knew that the friendship bench is under the tree outside Ms Lewis’ classroom. Does it need a sign, like the one on the playground?
- Playground markings on the main school playground. Have you seen them yet? Well done to the council, who came up with a shortlist of markings and made it all happen!
- People enjoying hobbies assemblies. Council agreed with this. One of our members suggested the idea of pet assemblies. What do the classes think?
- Ms Dixon’s idea about an outdoor sculpture.
- Mrs Cushion’s class: drawing, outside play, painting, Witch Tallulah, words, adding, P.E. writing, drama, singing.
- Mr Buntings class: ‘History Detectives’ drama, Tee-ball, safe-cracking maths, sharing ideas with people, visitors like Mr Taylor, writing a recount of the SS Fernebo rescue.
Things that need to improve:
- Letting people join in games.
- People need to keep on the ‘playground’ side of the little wall when we’re playing on the playground. Council thought this was really important, because the adults need to be able to see everyone.
Bright ideas for making things better:
- A table for swapping cards. We thought this might be a good idea. Perhaps it could be a games table the rest of the week. Where might it go? Classes – what do you think?
- Would it work if we had mixed year groups sitting on tables in the dinner hall? This might help different children to get to know each other and lower the noise level. What do the classes think about this? Could we make this work, do you think?
- A wipeboard outside to tell people whose turn it is on the adventure playground – 17 children in Mrs Cushion’s classes thought it would work. Do you think this is a good idea? Are there any possible problems?
Next meeting on Friday, June 19th.
