School Council Minutes – 8.5.09

Where should we have a swapping area?

The classes who responded had similar ideas about where the swapping area should be on Fridays.  We have agreed to trial 2 places:

  • Playground: next to the low wall by the adventure playground.
  • Field: near the benches next to the adventure playground.

Mr Bunting will let MSAs and staff on break duty know about this.  We will see how it goes.

Good things around the school to celebrate:

  • Less people are getting hurt playing football.
  • People are playing with more people at breaktimes.
  • People are not sharing lunches anymore.
  • Playing on the field.  It gives us more space and is less dirty than the playground.
  • Taking turns on the adventure playground.

School Council agreed with most of these points.  They thought that playing on the field meant that children mixed more with other classes, but also thought that people did not behave as well on the field.  Do you agree?  Why / why not?  Let us know in your class council minutes.

Our best learning experiences in the classroom:

Crows

Addition, thinking quickly.

Creation stories.

All about Louis Braille.

Hearing Ruby’s radio interview.

Setting up a minibeast experiment.

Owls

Making clocks.

Calculating.

Painting the billabong.

Making the island.

Doing drama about the island.

Designing the boat for the island.

Do any other classes have some great learning to share?

Things that need to improve:

  • Noise level in assemblies.
  • Children giving piggybacks on the field – The council thought this was dangerous and could lead to accidents.
  • Where are playground buddies? – Mr Bunting pointed out that classes should be electing new playground buddies.  He agreed to remind all teachers at our staff meeting on Monday.
  • Keeping hands and feet to ourselves at playtimes.
  • Treating people with kindness
  • Throwing shoes – This is dangerous and can lead to shoes getting lost.  Remember to take care of each other, and each other’s belongings.
  • Climbing on the football goals.  We will ask Ms Dixon to remind children in assembly.

Bright ideas for making things better:

  • Putting up a wipeable sign near the adventure playground to let people know who’s turn it is?  Do you think this would work?
  • Having a more noticeable friendship area on the playing field.  Anna in reception suggested a friendship stop sign.  What do the classes think?
  • Isabel in Year 2 kindly offered to donate 2 small chestnut trees to help develop the school grounds.  Mr Bunting said that he would arrange for her to talk to Mrs Whiting about this.

Next meeting is on Thursday, 21st May.

Please have a class council.
